My New Best Friend

Is there anything more fun than trying to hold a thermometer under a child's arm who is sick, feverish and cranky?

When I try this maneuver on Hudson you would think I was the meanest mother alive. There's something about being sick and having your arm held down that makes a sweet baby turn into a screaming devil. Trying to take Hudson's temperature when he's sick is like trying to hold down a ticked off pterodactyl.

My under the arm thermometer is super dumb. It takes forever to take a temperature. Okay, maybe not forever...but every moment feels like a lifetime when your baby is screaming and hyperventilating in your arms.

I end up getting frustrated, pulling the thing out from under his arm thinking, "Did this thing beep, and I just did not hear it over the screaming banshee in my lap?"

I'm pleased to announce that there is a better way.

Meet the Exergen Temporal Scanner put out by the Exergen Corporation (pictured above).

In two seconds you can know what your baby's temperature is simply by running this genius invention across your child's forehead.

Let's all clap.

As a mother of four, this new gadget is one of my favorite products I own.

Never, and I mean never is just one child sick in this home. Which means if you only have one of those slow as a granny thermometers to use in a house filled with small, sick children, a lot of your day is spent holding down crying children to take their temps. When my kids were all sick and smaller, I always felt horrible taking their temperatures. They were already sick, and although super silly, the thermometer made matters way worse for them.

With this thermometer, taking a temperature is so fast you can take their temp while they are sleeping and never wake them up.

This thing is so fun to use, I find myself swiping other things in the house that aren't human.

My computer's temperature is 76.2

Are these things accurate?

Tests show this thermometer is accurate within .2 degrees.

The Exergen Temporal Scanner can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, Babies R Us, Target and Toys R Us. They are priced between $29-49. I think these would make great baby shower gifts. The manufacturer is also offering a $5 rebate. Gotta love a rebate!

I was sent this thermometer to review, so I didn't pay for mine.

Would I have bought this thermometer?

I definitely think it's worth the money, since it works great and the batteries are easily replaced. You can't replace the batteries in my regular thermometers, so you have to buy a new thermometer when one stops working. I guess we could argue that I could buy the old-school thermometer with the red line in it, but come on...I'm WAY too stupid to use that one. You might as well ask me to fill out the periodical table...it's just not going to happen.

As many of you know we're on a journey right now as a family to figure out how to buy products without participating in the exploitation of the poor, of women, or children. I am glad that this thermometer was made in the US, so I don't have to worry about little kids making my product or women being exploited so I can own this thing. However, I'm not sure right now if I would buy this thermometer since I can't order it directly from the company. As of right now, our family isn't shopping at the stores where you can purchase this product since a lot of these stores sell products that are made in countries that have very few restrictions on how the workers making their products are treated.

If this cool new thermometer could be purchased directly from the manufacturer, I would be this thing's biggest fan.

If you are freaked out right now, along with us, about whether the products you are buying are contributing to a lot of yuck around the world, then I have good news. Check out the Mama Buzz site today. Not only is Mama Buzz giving away this thermometer, lots of others are giving away the scanner as well. I totally dropped the ball on asking for a thermometer to give away. Exergen offered to let us do a giveaway, and I never responded, like a doofus. I'm sorry! I wish I had asked. It would have made me so excited for one of you to get one of these fun, functional momma tools.

We have one of these. We got it at the end of the year because we had money left in our medical savings account. We love it. It does read about a degree low, but keeping that in mind it so nice to be able to take the undisturbed temperature of a sleeping child!

We just got one of these a couple weeks ago at Walgreens- on sale for 29.99. SOOO much easier and faster to use than any other thermometer we've tried! And it's fun to scan across your head in a Star Trek kind of way :)

I love mine too! Although, when the are awake, I have found that it is easier and more accurate to use it under the arm... still a very short amount of time and painless, plus I can play a tickle game while taking the temp! Just chiming in!
