Haiti:::Delma 75:::10-11 a.m.

Things are definitely getting spicier in the street.

If you want to try and wrap your brain around why the Haitian people are protesting and rioting today, here are two articles to read:

Protest of Haiti's Election Results (from CNN).

Violent Protests Erupt in Port-au-Prince after Election Results are Released (written by a couple here on the ground in Haiti).

It's a strange feeling to be an American in a foreign country.  As a wife and mother in the US, I was always ashamed of how out of the loop I felt about the political process.  I was a die-hard voter, but my days were busy and filled with four little boys and a lot of life.  I had little time for staying abreast of politics.

There's no explaining how out of the loop I feel in Haiti.  Like I can't even find the loop.  I'm afraid it's a million miles from me.

Today we watch over the wall, not real sure why people are doing the things they are doing.  My kids play legos in their room.  I'm about to make lunch.  All while UN tanks sit 200 yards from my kitchen.

As you look at these pictures and wonder why our street looks this way, we are wondering the same things.  Odd feeling, isn't it?

We don't live in Haiti because we understand Haiti.  We may never understand this place.  But our hearts hurt for these people today...at the rage they feel against injustice.  How angry it must make them to feel powerless and betrayed by their own government.

Haiti can be a lot of things.  Scary.  Frustrating.  Hot.  Loud.  But Haiti never fails to be entertaining.

Check out the news crew.  I wonder what station they are with?  What network hands out cameras made of battery boxes and pringle cans?  Love the paper-towel roll microphone?  If that's not funny enough, how about the people that actually agreed to an interview?

We decided that if our sons were Haitian and in the middle of a protest, this is exactly what Ashton and Hayden would be doing.  Can't you just see them?

Wow. Praying! And yes the "news crew" is rather entertaining! At least they are making the best of it and being creative instead of wreckless. On a similar note I remember in college a bunch of friends when down town after the Broncos lost a superbowl and there was a huge riot an my friends got cornered by some tear gas... I just remember thinking how stupid a reason to have a riot... perhaps they feel this is the way they can voice themselves? Much more worthy than a silly football game I have to admit.

Praying for your family and safety in the midst of chaos. Thank you for sharing your heart and humor and giving the rest of us a glimpse of life there. Once again, its hard to ignore when the injustices in this world suddenly have faces.
