Dezod: I think it means a trouble maker. During the riots last semester, I also heard our Haitian friends use the word "dezod" to describe what was going on in the streets. Maybe I should be alarmed by the fact that Soso refers to Hudson almost every day as a "dezod" or "ti-dezod."
Nonetheless...another political announcement is supposed to happen any ol' minute here in Haiti. The last time an announcement of this manner was made the entire city shut down and tires burned in the street on the other side of our wall. School was canceled. Our kids were covered in soot. We were stuck inside our compound for days.
Today parents came and picked up their children early from school. Everyone on the street seems to have headphones on, listening intently to the radio. Aaron just witnessed the police totally pounce a guy who was rolling tires down the street. Come to find out the tire roller was actually doing a real-life job...rolling tires down to the tire store. The grocery store closed really early. The banks shut their doors at 2 p.m. The machans are busy putting away their wares in the middle of the day.
You know what that means....
Wait. No. Not really. No one knows what any of this means. We live in a country of wicked, juicy rumors.
Perhaps things will get "dezod." But then again...maybe they won't. Either way, I went to the store early this morning and bought groceries...and an insane amount of eggs...because for some reason eggs are what a family needs when tires start burning. Last riot I loaded up on the eggs too. Weird. We don't even eat eggs that often..but they are my official riot food.
If you love all things Haiti, I highly recommend reading this blog. They actually know stuff. They do a great job explaining what's going on in Haiti in a way that doesn't make you doze off at your computer. As for me, I don't really understand what is going on, and have no idea what to expect, so I'll probably just post pictures of my silly kids and what I'm making for dinner tonight.
Besides...who could be worried with this many eggs in their refrigerator?

Stay safe! I will be praying.
Hudson is da man!
That really isn't a lot of eggs. I have 4 kids and for Easter, I have to buy like 12 dozen eggs so everyone has enough to color. Now that's an insane amount of eggs. Do you have any idea how sick I am of hard boiled eggs after Easter is over? Praying for safety for you and all the girls (and your boys too!)
Aside from the political stuff... I am scratching my head trying to figure out what you are making for dinner with those items!
Ha! Vegetable curry...and a friend told me they use peanut butter in it. Tried it tonight. It was really yummy.

I do believe the Pioneer Woman would be proud of you.
So would stocking up on eggs for a riot be the same as stocking up on bread and milk when snow even threatens here in the South?
Awesome post, Heather!
Dezod - disorder, unrest
Ti - little
Bagare (with an accent on the e) - troublemaker
I had to look it up in my "Creole Made Easy" book. I just started studying last night. I wish the book made it easier!

You really don't do eggs much, do you? I just bought 5 dozen. That may or may not last a week and a half. :D Praying that there are no riots after the announcement!
Hoping it's all just a rumor and there is no need for all those eggs! :)
