Don't Invite us Over

Hudson is a wild man today.  Back to climbing things, digging in my purse, and causing his brothers to yell out irritated, "Moooooommms" to me every minute on the minute.

Thank you for praying.  God heard those prayers and delivered back to us the child who keeps us on our toes.  We're incredibly thankful to have our Tasmanian devil back.

In the car on the way home from the Livesays, after our frightening morning I said something like this to Hudson..."Why do you want to scare your parents to death?"

One of the boys chimed in...

"Well, it is Spring Break Week of Awesomeness."

True that.  I guess we've bred it into Hudson pretty well over the years that when it's Spring Break Week of Awesomeness you have two options.  Play hard or go home.

A mere sickness would have been far too lame during Spring Break Week of Awesomeness.  Hudson brought his "A" game and had a seizure.  He knows how to rock a spring break.  Now that we're not worried freaks, we can stop and appreciate Hudson's attempt to make Spring Break memories.

Before the epic morning of high fever and seizing, the night before found us having a family sleepover at the Livesays.  We ate tacos, the kids swam, and then we went to Beth's for dessert and to pray over some friends who were going back to the United States.  When we got home, we had a dance-off.  Oh, and somewhere in the middle of all that Hudson pooped on the Livesay's floor.  Omg.  We were those people.

Noah was by far the star of the show.  He was definitely feeling it.

This picture may ruin my new friendship with Tara.  It looks like we're all doing the dance called, "I'm about to wet my pants."  Heard of it?  It's huge in Haiti.  That means it was probably a big deal where you live about a decade ago.
Well...we couldn't just have Tara mad at us.

We loved the dance-a-thon.   Lots of laughs.  Lots of sweat.  Lots of mocking.  When it was over, we put the kids to bed and stayed up way later than people with brains should stay up.  Looking back, we've all been parents long enough to know we totally set ourselves up for something ultra dumb.  Is there a Newton's law that says something like, "If you have a bunch of kids and decide to live on the wild side and stay up later than midnight, all hell will most definitely break loose in the middle of the night guaranteeing that you will never...no not ever get caught up on sleep?"

I'm sure I've read that somewhere before.

We'll, you can totally high five Newton.  His parenting law seems to be as sure as the one about gravity.

Noah woke up barfing in the middle of the night.  Then at 6 Hudson woke up yacking.  Then Hudson had a seizure.  Then we woke the Livesays up by being loud and flipping out about the seizure.  Then we all sat around making huge decisions about Hudson's life without any sleep or caffeine and with what sounded like 42,000 roosters screaming in our ears.  Then we left our older children with the Livesays for hours while we went to get medical care for Hudson.  Let me break this down.

Hudson pooped on their floor.  He puked at their house.  He had a seizure.  We forced Tara and Troy to wake up really early with adrenaline pumping after they had already been up during the night with a very sick kid.  Then we dumped our older kids on them the entire morning.  There's a lesson in this.

1.  You should never invite us to spend the night at your house.  Never.

2.  Troy and Tara Livesay are hands down some of the best people we have ever met in our lives.  They are the kind of people that we already love so much that if you ever said a negative word about them (even if it was true) we'd either fight you or better yet, tie a goat outside your bedroom window every single day for the rest of your life.

Long live Spring Break Week of Awesomeness (I say it a little quieter, and with less umph as the week goes on).

Well, I'm glad that the Livesays were nicer about people coming to their house and pooping, barfing and seizing everywhere. As I recall, you're exact words were, "Go home... NOW!" Home being the place where I would sit all alone. And I managed to contain all my sickness to your bathroom. Perhaps you guys can learn a few things from the Livesays regarding hospitality toward sick/seizing people!

You know I just had to throw that out there!

Ha! Yes. We have much to learn from the Livesays.

I am laughing so hard about this, Ryan. Super funny.

Maybe one day when we're better people you can barf and crap in our floor and I won't yell and scream at you to leave. Keep praying.

You are SUCH a great writer, Heather! I can picture it all happening. I'm SO GLAD that Hudson is himself again. I was laughing at the "Spring break week of awesomeness". Yes, a little quieter would be nice, but it's still a GREAT idea! Hope you get some much needed rest. Thanks for the excellent updates!

THOSE are the pictures I wanted to see. Love the adults' dance-off
:-)

The Livesays and the Hendricks are now permanently bonded over poop and puke and can from here on in, work beautifully together out in the fields white with harvest.

PARTY ONNNNNNNNNNN!!! Only a few days of awesomeness left! (ours have just begun)

I LOVE reading about your life. I thought I was one of those people (did that just really happen? poo in the swimming pool and whatnot...?? or tub??) I am so thankful that your tazmanian devil is back - that God you have such good friends in Haiti!

Ha! What was it? The poop? The barf? The seizure? The terrible photo?

So many options....

So glad Hudson is better! I stumbled onto your blog last night and prayed for Hudson and your entire family after reading the post from Wed.
I'm also glad to know missionaries have friends and fun when away from home and family.
I so admire what you and your family are doing. I will be sure to keep your family in my prayers.
In Christ - Paige.
