Greenpeace has written a two-part article on the issues found in the textile industry. If you're one of the many working through these hard topics regarding responsible consumerism, here's what Greenpeace has to say...
Create a Revolution in Your Wardrobe (part one)
Explores ideas like shopping responsible, limiting our ecological footprint when it comes to clothing, and reading labels.
Create a Revolution in Your Wardrobe (part two)
Talks about child labor and offers links to "clean clothes" companies and a list of which ones are not.
There was a time when I thought environmental issues were not important. I won't go into all the reasons those thoughts were ridiculous, but I will say that when it comes to caring for the poor and paying the laborer what they are due, environmental issues are inseparable from issues related to justice and caring for the least of these.
Greenpeace gets a bad wrap (and may deserve it at times*) but these two articles are excellent and do a great job of connecting the dots between why environmental disregard and the disregard of the poor go hand in hand. Combined, these posts contain a lot of helpful information and ideas for making solid, tangible changes.
*Let's not forget that followers of Jesus and the church get a bad wrap sometimes too when people say and do offensive things that do not express the views of Jesus or the majority of people who love Him. I think part of maturing is learning to not throw the baby out with the bathwater and learning to appreciate the principles that connect us even if we disagree on the methods employed to live them out.

Ah Greenpeace...my first foray into environmental activism was when I was 12 and I tried 4 times to join GP. My dad kept finding my applications with my quarters taped to them and vetoing my dreams!
Environmental matters are so important! I don't think people realize how much damage we do just by little things like adding bleach to our laundry routine. The run off not only harms wildlife, but it causes cancer. By thinking holistically in what we buy we are improving conditions on all fronts. It is so very important!
Thanks for linking all of these together. Such importance in these posts! I pray we never lose sight of this truth.
Thank you for sharing this. I would NEVER have looked to Greenpeace for a solution.
I especially took heart to "Let's not forget that followers of Jesus and the church get a bad wrap sometimes too when people say and do offensive things that do not express the views of Jesus or the majority of people who love Him. I think part of maturing is learning to not throw the baby out with the bathwater and learning to appreciate the principles that connect us even if we disagree on the methods employed to live them out."
Thank you again for sharing this perspective.
